Madison County is proudly home to over 55,000 acres of National Forest, 60 miles of Appalachian Trail, and the world’s third oldest river, the French Broad.

The natural beauty can be experienced in a myriad of recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, rafting, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and natural hot springs. We have a rich culture and a vibrant arts, crafts, and music scene that display the heritage of the Appalachian Mountain’s. If you’re looking for a better quality of life, you will find that here. Madison County is a place unlike any other, a place for you.

We feel that it’s our quality of life sets us apart. Not only do we have those natural amenities and recreational choices, but we also offer a wide range of educational opportunities, a terrific health care system, and a library system that in our eyes is second to none.

The Hot Springs Health Program was established in 1971 and is celebrating its 45th year. It serves as the only primary care provider for the County and they have four medical centers located throughout.  Their provider staff includes Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Osteopathic Medicine.  The Hot Springs Health Program collaborates with community agencies as well as specialist to make sure that patients receive services for preventive care, disease management, and acute care.  The Hot Springs Health Program offers a wide range of services with the spectrum of care from birth until end of life; these include home health, hospice and outpatient physical therapy. In 2014 the Hot Springs Health Program was awarded the Community Care of North Carolina Quality award.  This award is presented to agencies that have a commitment to improving the health of North Carolinians. The availability of medical care is one of the factors that make the Hot Springs Health Program successful in improving the lives of their patients.  The mission statement of the Hot Springs Health Program is as follows:  “Meeting the health care needs of the people of Madison County and the surrounding areas through an organization oriented to and directed by the community.”

The Madison County Public Libraries provide opportunities for community members to connect and collaborate-both with one another and the world.  We help members in their quest not only to learn, but to create knowledge. While the Madison County Public Libraries continue to provide access to a wealth of books for educational and recreational reading, we also support the community through a myriad of programming for all ages.  We are a resource for finding jobs, literacy skills for adults, as well as technological opportunities. The Madison County Public Libraries truly touch the lives of our community. The Madison County Public Libraries are a symbol of a healthy community that provides open access to educational opportunities and supports lifelong learning.

We are home to Madison County School System, Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College - Madison Campus and Mars Hill University, with all three striving to provide the best education possible to the citizens of Madison County and beyond.
